He had lived at Lone Moor Road near Derry City's Brandywell stadium, where McClean used to play, and died despite the best efforts of medics to save his life.

Stunned local people gathered at the family home to express their condolences to the toddler's family and said his mum Laura and her partner John.

Ronan was a brother to Dylan, Michael and Selina and half-brother to Cadan and Conal.

A fundraising page was established to contribute to the costs of the funeral with a target of £1,000 and McClean covered the complete cost but the page has raised over £3,000 in total.

In November of last year, McClean has donated a bespoke hand cycle trike to a young Derry girl with Spina Bifida and earlier this year, he helped pay for the cancer treatment of four-year-old Daragh McCleary.
