SOME of Ireland's latest Lotto winners are planning an unexpected trip to the World Cup in Sicily — after £933,411 was divided up between 16 workmates.
The Telecom Eireann technicians from Crown Alley telephone exchange won £58,338 each. Plans on spending the money vary — three or four are considering World Cup holidays while others are looking at buying houses, cars, holidays and paying off mortgages.
After scooping two Match 4 prizes last week, the syndicate used the winnings to pick more numbers for Wednesday night's National Lottery jackpot.
"All of us have been playing Lotto each week as a group for the past six months. We invest £1 each and use the same numbers," said the jubilant Telecom workers who wish to remain anonymous.
When the tickets are bought, the syndicate photocopies them so they all have a chance to check the numbers drawn on television. On Wednesday night, a delighted dozen members got together to toast their win. "Twelve of us met and had a right few pints to celebrate," said one delighted technician.
