‘It really made our day’ - wedding couple thank O’Herlihy for wedding video

Published 29/04/2014 | 09:38

The couple who received a special wedding video from Bill O’Herlihy and the RTE soccer panel have said it made their wedding day.

Football-mad David Jones was stunned on his wedding day when his bride Julie-Ann Coleman produced a video she made with the panel offering their thoughts on the big day in a deadpan manner.

The video has quickly proved to be a hit on YouTube and the couple, who only just arrived in Vietnam on their honeymoon, spoke of their gratitude for the unique wedding present.

“David loves watching Ireland and the RTE panel, in particular Bill,” Julie Ann told RTE's John Murray Show earlier today.

“I never imagined the video would turn out as well as it did. It was brilliant she added.

Speaking from their hotel, David said the gesture meant a great deal to the couple.

“It really made our day and we really want to express our thanks,” he said.

“Julie Ann will be cashing these brownie points for years,” he joked.

O’Herlihy spoke on the show too and said that he made a special effort for the couple as he had spotted David's ‘Bill for President’ at games.

“I was conscious of the banner,” he told the show.

“We don’t normally do this kind of thing, but this was exceptional.”

“We were asked to send a video message of congratulations and the lads were okay to do it. I said ‘let’s do more than congratulations’. I had a few questions and the lads responded brilliantly.”

The presenter also says that he has no intentions to reverse his decision to retire after the World Cup.

“I have been on TV now for 49 years and if I signed another contract I would have to be brought in on a Zimmer frame.”

“Darragh Maloney will take over and he is a hundred times better.”
