Ireland slide in rankings

IRELAND have dropped to 44th in the FIFA world rankings with their loss to Brazil meaning they slip below nations such as Gabon, Costa Rica and even Scotland.
Ireland fell five places because the standings are calculated around results in the past 12 months. Therefore, the value of results accrued in World Cup qualifiers last March and early April is removed from calculations.
Considering Ireland secured draws against Bulgaria and world champions Italy in that window, a drop was inevitable.
Spain top the charts, while England are up to 7th -- one place ahead of France. Northern Ireland slumped by 11 places to 50th spot.
