last night was all about Robbie Keane but the man himself used the occasion to pay his respect to RTE's Tony O'Donoghue in a humble post-match interview.

Keane scored a clinical first-half goal in the 4-0 win over Oman - his 68th goal in 146 appearances - and afterwards thanked O'Donoghue for the Corkman's professionalism over the years and telling him he looks better than ever after recent ill health.

O'Donoghue began the interview by telling the former Ireland captain that he has seen 136 of Keane's games and 65 of his 68 goals, adding that it "was an absolute pleasure and privilege to see you grow up from a boy in a green jersey to a man and an Irish hero".

Keane responded in heartwarming fashion.

“The pleasure is mine and thank you also for interviewing me over the years," said Keane.

"It’s been an honour and I know you have had your tough times in the last few years but you have come through the other end and you are looking stronger and better than ever so thank you also."

The two ended the interview with a warm embrace and wished each other all the best in the future.
