Wayne Rooney is the subject of serious interest from MLS start-up franchise Los Angeles FC.
The news comes as Rooney's Manchester United team-mate, Bastian Schweinsteiger, sets his sights firmly on a move to the United States in January, with Chicago Fire leading the race to sign the exiled midfielder.
Rooney is high on Los Angeles' list of targets as they bid to recruit a 'global' star before joining the MLS in March 2018.
The MLS allows clubs to each sign three 'designated players', which gives teams the opportunity to compete for high profile stars on the international market whose earnings would ordinary fall outside the league's salary cap.
Luka Modric and Cesc Fabregas are also thought to be among a list of 10 players of interest to Los Angeles.
