King drafts local trio into U-21 squad
League of Ireland trio Lee Desmond, Sean Hoare and John Kavanagh have been named in Noel King's Ireland U-21 squad for the pair of games with English opposition at the start of June.
But the defenders are set to miss the higher profile of the two fixtures because of the club commitments.
King's charges will take on an England 'C' side at Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway on June 1 before travelling across the water to take on Gareth Southgate's U-21 selection in a restricted-entry game at the FA's St George's Park base on June 5.
Harry Kane is scheduled to participate in that fixture, yet it clashes with a full round of Airtricity League fixtures and St Patrick's Athletic pair Hoare and Desmond and Cork right full Kavanagh will be required by their employers.
"These two fixtures will be excellent tests for us. Both the England teams will be older than our players so that in itself will present a test," said King.
His squad includes Preston midfielder Alan Browne who will arrive in good spirits after contributing to their League One play-off win over Sheffield United at Wembley on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Cillian Sheridan has confirmed that he will be leaving APOEL Nicosia this summer.
The Cavan lad played Champions League football for the Cypriot club during his two seasons in the sun but he is now on the look-out for a fresh challenge.
