Jonathan Walters and Jeff Hendrick have both returned to their clubs after injury ruled them out of the friendlies with Switzerland on Friday, although Walters may return for the game with Slovakia next Tuesday
Walters returns to Stoke City after succumbing to a hamstring injury while Derby County's Hendrick, as expected, will not feature as a result of his shoulder problem.
The Stoke City website stated: "Jonathan Walters will miss the Republic of Ireland’s international friendly against Switzerland on Friday but is hopeful of being available for their encounter with Slovakia next week.
"The 31-year-old, who was named as the FAI Senior International Player of the Year last weekend, was hoping to overcome a minor hamstring injury in time to face his Potters teammate Xherdan Shaqiri in Dublin at the end of the week.
"However, he won’t be risked for the fixture and has since returned home, although he will link back up with the Ireland squad on Thursday with a view to being included in the starting eleven when they take on Slovakia at the Aviva Stadium next Tuesday."
In his press conference today, Martin O'Neill confirmed that Jon Walters would return to watch the team in action on Friday night and would be available for Tuesday.
He confirmed that Robbie Keane sat out training but was uninjured and would start one of the two friendlies.
With Harry Arter back in Bournemouth, Martin O'Neill will have the chance to blood some new talent in the fixtures.
Under-21 International Jack Byrne continues to train with the senior squad today but will play for Noel King's under-21s tomorrow night.
