Martin O'Neill's men were hoping to be drawn against Hungary but will instead have to overcome the challenge of Bosnia and Herzegovina to reach Euro 2016 in France next summer.

The Bosnians will not relish the challenge of coming to a packed Aviva Stadium after Ireland's recent victory over World Champions Germany.

Bosnia finished third in Group B behind Belgium and Wales.

Ireland will take heart from the fact that Bosnia were beaten 3-0 in Israel and also lost at home to Cyprus during their qualification campaign.

The dates of the home and away legs will be announced shortly.

Ireland will play the away leg first.
