I'm really, really disappointed to miss the Georgia game - James McClean

Published 03/09/2014 | 20:40

James McClean has returned to Wigan Athletic and will miss Ireland's opening Euro 2016 qualifier with Georgia in Tblisi because of a niggly injury.

The Derry native has been nursing the ankle injury since mid-July and aggravated it at training this week.

"I'm not involved, I go back to the club and step up my rehab programme. I should be okay for the next round of games," McClean said ahead of tonight's game against Oman.

"I'm really, really disappointed not to be playing. It's important that we get off to a winning start and get three points."
