hunt poised to sign 'short-term' for ipswich

Stephen Hunt is on the verge of signing a short-term contract with Ipswich Town and may make his debut for the club tomorrow against Blackpool.

The former Irish international winger was released by Wolves during the summer and after failing to land a contract elsewhere – ironically he was on trial at Blackpool – he has recently been reunited with Mick McCarthy, the manager who brought him to Molineux in 2010.

Talks opened this week and were on the verge of being completed last night.

However, the prospect of David Forde's new Millwall contract being signed, sealed and delivered within the same timeframe is unlikely.

Forde has six months left on his current deal and has engaged in talks with the Millwall manager Steve Lomas.

"We are in talks about a new contract at the moment and things are progressing," Forde said. "I've spoken with the manager about it and I'd love to stay."
