How Wayne Rooney's mega-contract breaks down

Wayne Rooney looks set to put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at Old Trafford and the breakdown is jaw-dropping.

David Moyes has said once there is any update, the club will make an announcement, but it is understood that the former Everton striker has put pen to paper on a new five and a half year contract that will see the England international earn £300,000 a week.

The huge contract will be used by the board as a demonstration of the club to hold onto their best players in times of difficulty, though others have suggested that it is a move of desperation to pay over-the-odds for a player who has previously shown a despite to leave Old Trafford.

The new contract is a £50,000 increase on his current deal, and here is how it breaks down.

  • £15,600,000-a-year
  • £300,000-a-week
  • £43,000-a-day
  • £1,800-an-hour
  • £30-a-minute
  • 50p-a-second

He won't be short a few pennies.
