Middlesbrough slipped out of the Premier League a year and a day after ending their seven-year exile from the top flight.
Aitor Karanka, the Spanish head coach who had finally dragged the Teessiders back into the big time, left the Riverside Stadium in March with relegation looming and successor Steve Agnew was unable to halt the slide.
