Heartbreak for McGeady

Aiden McGeady's hopes of making it to Dublin for the Europa League final lay in ruins last night after Spartak Moscow were hammered 5-1 by Porto in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Radamal Falcao hit a hat-trick for the newly-crowned Portuguese champions.

Benfica, who beat PSV Eindhoven 4-1, and Villarreal, 5-1 winners against FC Twente, also look set for the semi-finals.

And it could be three out of four Portuguese teams in the last four after FC Braga drew 1-1 away to Dynamo Kiev.

Meanwhile, Brazilian midfielder Anderson scored a second-half brace as Manchester United's second string beat their Manchester City counterparts 3-1 in the reserve team derby at Moss Lane last night.

It was Anderson's first match since he suffered a knee ligament injury during United's FA Cup fifth-round tie with non-league Crawley on February 19.

Gabriel Obertan had earlier given United the lead before Abdi Ibrahim equalised for City.
