THE jury in the trail of Harry Redknapp and Milan Mandaric, who are facing charges of cheating the public revenue, were unable to reach a unanimous verdict after almost four hours of deliberation today.

Redknapp stands accused of receiving bonuses totalling $295,000 (£187,000) from Mandaric, when the former was Portsmouth manager and the latter chairman of the club, into an offshore Monaco bank account using the name Rosie 47, named after Redknapp’s late bulldog and the year of his birth.

It is alleged that the first payment was in lieu of a bonus for Peter Crouch’s transfer from Portsmouth to Aston Villa.

The Crown submits that the payments, made between 2002 and 2004, were taxable bonuses.

Redknapp and Mandaric deny the charges, saying the money was an investment that was unconnected with Redknapp’s employment at Portsmouth.

The jury were sent to consider their verdict at lunchtime on Tuesday with Judge Leonard urging the jurors to ignore the fact that Redknapp and Mandaric were well known personalities, staying "there are no specific rules which attach to them.

On the 12th day of the trial, the jury spent over three-and-a-half hours deliberating after retiring to consider a verdict at Southwark Crown Court in London.

The case will now go in to a 13th day with the jury reconvening at 10am on Wednesday morning.
