Orlando City have sacked Sean St Ledger for “a serious breach of club policy," the club confirmed to Independent.ie.
The 30-year-old Ireland international had his career back on the right track after starting 14 matches since he moved to the MLS following unsuccessful spells in England with Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
Orlando signed Real Madrid academy defender David Mateos during the week and it had been thought that St Ledger was being let go to make way for the new arrival.
But this evening, the club confirmed to Independent.ie that St Ledger was axed for more sinister reasons.
St Ledger has represented Ireland 37 times but has not featured at all under the management of Martin O'Neill.
