Football loco: Big Phil shows his fiery side with rant at media 'clowns'
WHILE Big Phil Scolari didn't have the best of times at Chelsea, he rarely lived up to the fiery reputation he had garnered coaching several clubs and countries over the years.
However, judging by this week's latest clash with the media and officialdom, it seems the madness of Brazilian football is definitely getting to him.
After a brief stint with mega-rich Bunyodkor in Uzbekistan, Scolari is now back with former club Palmeiras, who took on Atletico Mineiro in a Copa Sudamericana quarter-final on Wednesday night.
After his side's 1-1 draw, Scolari was asked by reporters why he had played recently-injured midfielder Jorge Valdivia, who was substituted after just 18 minutes. Wrong question.
"No, no, no, no. You lot really are a pain. He played for 18 minutes, that's good for me. Go and interview the doctor. You lot are just clowning around," said Scolari before singling out one unfortunate TV reporter and bellowing "and you're one of the biggest clowns".
But Big Phil wasn't finished there -- he was apoplectic after his side had been awarded a penalty, only for the referee to reverse his decision after a chat with his linesman.
Scolari hinted that the media might have been responsible and said: "We were told the referee or linesmen received information by radio from somebody outside the pitch. We will look into it to find out if it was radio or television or where it might have come from."
