Flying Dutchman Drenthe so sorry

FLYING Dutchman Royston Drenthe has apologised to the citizens of Alicante after he was caught driving at speeds of up 180kph last week.

Drenthe, who is on loan at newly-promoted Hercules from Real Madrid, was pulled over by police at around 4am after he ran six red lights while driving at speeds more suited to a Red Arrows fly-by.

The player, who couldn't be stopped initially because he was going so fast, claimed he was bringing a sick friend to hospital for alcohol poisoning although doctors later confirmed that the passenger was actually just extremely drunk and not in any immediate danger -- apart from slamming into a wall of course.

Drenthe, who reportedly verbally abused police at the scene, said: "I accept that I have done something wrong. I did not want to go fast for no reason, but it was for something urgent."
