FAI settle on Norway test
HAVING failed to secure a glamour tie with England, the FAI were forced to settle for a significantly less appetising November 17 friendly as they announced Norway as the opposition for the vacant international date later this year.
The FAI had contacted the English FA with a view to attracting Fabio Capello's World Cup flops to the Aviva Stadium for Ireland's last game of 2010.
But any fans hoping for the prospect of watching Giovanni Trapattoni's side take on a major force in world football after four European Championship qualifiers against Armenia, Andorra, Russia and Slovakia will be disappointed.
Norway have only ever qualified for three World Cups in their history -- their last appearance coming in 1998 -- while they qualified for their only European Championship finals in 2000.
Notable names in their last squad included John Carew, John Arne Riise, Morten Gamst Pedersen and Brede Hangeland.
