Goals in either half at Dalymount Park from Christy Fagan and Killian Brennan helped Bohemians to move to within four points of leaders Shamrock Rovers as Galway succumbed to their 16th straight league defeat.
The last thing Galway would have wanted was to concede an early goal, but that is exactly what happened, as a long throw-in by debutant right-back Mark O'Reilly was controlled inside the area by the elusive Fagan, who turned and slotted in his ninth goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Conor Wynn denied Brennan and Anto Flood in the 11th and 15th minutes respectively, with the Gypsies full value for their lead at the break.
In the second half, Bohs held a grip on proceedings, as Fagan hit the woodwork an incredible three times in as many minutes, ending with a header against the left-hand upright.
It seemed like only a matter of time before the second goal would arrive and, following a foul in the area by Galway captain Paul Sinnott on sub Aidan Downes with 16 minutes left, Brennan hammered home a penalty.
Galway continued to battle right until the end, but Wynn was worked once again as he produced a wonderful one-handed save from Downes on 89 minutes.
