Lukasz Fabianski was still optimistic last night of starting ahead of Wojciech Szczesny in today's FA Cup final, with Arsene Wenger waiting before giving final confirmation of his decision to the two goalkeepers.

Szczesny has been the first choice Arsenal goalkeeper in the Premier League and Champions League but Fabianksi has started in every round of the FA Cup and produced heroics in the semi-final penalty shoot-out win against Wigan.

Fabianski, though, is also refusing to sign a new contract beyond today's match. The intrigue deepened last Sunday when Szczesny was unexpectedly dropped from the Premier League match against Norwich and denied the chance to beat Petr Cech to the Premier League 'golden glove' for clean sheets.

Two boosts for Arsenal are the availability of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thomas Vermaelen following injury. They are expected to join Jack Wilshere among the Wembley substitutes.

Wenger also reiterated that his own future would not be decided by today's outcome. "When I've been part of a club for 18 years, it would be a bit ridiculous to base my decision on one single match," he said. (©Daily Telegraph, London)
