Portugal midfielder Danny will miss the European Championship finals after suffering a season-ending knee injury while playing for Zenit St Petersburg.
The Russian champions said the 32-year-old had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and would be out for eight to nine months.
Danny, who has 36 caps for Portugal, was injured during Zenit's 5-2 win against Spartak Moscow last Saturday.
His absence will also be a blow to Zenit in their battle to retain the title. They are in third place with six series of matches remaining, two points behind leaders Rostov.
The European Championships kick off on June 10, with Portugal in Group F alongside Austria, Hungary and Iceland.
Meanwhile, Chelsea's U-19s retained the UEFA Youth League title with a 2-1 victory over Paris St Germain in Switzerland yesterday.
The Blues are unbeaten in the competition since November 2014 - a run of 15 matches - and they began the final with the confidence of defending champions.
Within 10 minutes they were ahead after Fikayo Tomori reacted quickest to fellow centre-back Jake Clarke-Salter's blocked header to score his fifth goal of the season.
PSG, who missed a penalty in the first half, equalised in the 58th minute through Yakou Meite.
However, Chelsea were back ahead two minutes later as Kasey Palmer charged forward from midfield to score his fifth goal in seven UEFA Youth League matches and his 16th of the season.
