Italian captain Gianluigi Buffon will not be lifting the Henri Delaunay trophy in Paris next week but his conduct throughout his country's campaign has made him one of the personalities of the tournament.
After Ireland's pivotal 1-0 win in Lille, Buffon rushed from the Italian dug-out to congratulate the Irish managerial duo of Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane on their progression to the knockout stages.
After last night's defeat on penalties against the Germans, the Juventus netminder was straight over to the German players to congratulate them on their victory.
The heartbroken Italians left France today and their adoring came out to bid them farewell. And Buffon did this....
