Robbie Keane announced his comeback from injury in trademark fashion by grabbing a first half brace for LA Galaxy to show Martin O'Neill he is in good health ahead of Euro 2016.
Keane was in fine form on his first appearance for his employers since March 19 after undergoing surgery on a knee problem which flared up on international duty.
The Irish skipper took just 13 minutes to get his name back on the scoresheet in Galaxy's MLS meeting with the New England Revolution.
Keane peeled off the back of sleepy New England defenders to finish from inside the six-yard box with a composed left-footed finish.
As the home crowd hailed their returning hero, Keane opted to mind himself in the course of celebrating by shunning his usual cart-wheel celebration for a simple bow. He added another close range effort before the break, tapping home from inside the six yard box.
He was replaced after an hour by Steven Gerrard, who scored in injury time in a 4-2 victory.
Keane's return is good news for O'Neill who will name his provisional squad for the warm-up game with Holland next Thursday. Ireland's opponents Belgium suffered a major setback over the weekend when Vincent Kompany was ruled out of the finals.
