Germany go above and beyond in classy gesture to the people of France

From their own lofty standards, Euro 2016 was a bit of a disappointment for Germany.

Joachim Loew's men bowed out at the semi-final stage following a 2-1 defeat against host nation France.

And while Loew and defender Mats Hummels were quick to criticise the new 24-team format following their exit, it seems there is no bitterness at all from the German football association.

The Germans took out a full page ad in today's L'Equipe thanking the French for their hospitality over the past few weeks.

The classy gesture certainly didn't go unnoticed.
