Italy boss Antonio Conte has offered up an interview in English ahead of Euro 2016, as he admitted it has been a ‘difficult time’ for his nation due to a lack of rising young stars.

Talking to La Gazetta Dello Sport, the coach who will take over as the new Chelsea manager last month offered up a display of his English, which he has been learning over recent months after he accepted the offer to take on the Stamford Bridge role.

He still has some way to go before he is speaking fluently, but this was a decent first attempt from the tactician who will look to plot the down fall of the Republic of Ireland in the third of Italy’s Euro 2016 group games.

“In the last Euros, the Italian team arrived in the tournament against Spain after a good tournament, but in the last World Cup, we were knocked out in the first round,” he stated.

“This is not a good moment for Italian football. It is difficult to find new young players who are very strong. We are working hard to become a good team and have a good squad and if we find the way, it is possible for us to be an outsider (to challenge) in this tournament.”
