Fabian Delph's Manchester City debut ended after 20 minutes when he was carried off with a hamstring injury as Real Madrid claimed a 4-1 victory in Melbourne.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini was not too concerned by the heavy defeat considering the team he fielded.
Jason Denayer (20) partnered 16-year-old Cameron Humphreys in defence against a frontline of Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
Benzema volleyed the opening goal for Real, with Ronaldo adding the second shortly after. Pepe made it three with a header from Isco's corner before Yaya Toure pulled one back for City in first-half stoppage-time.
Denis Cheryshev added Real's fourth with 15 minutes to go and City never looked like coming back.
Joe Hart was impressed with the performance of £49m signing Raheem Sterling: "He got a bit of treatment but that's what he's going to get. You fully expect him to bounce off players but he gets up and keeps going and he's going to be a great player."
