'Cursed' Ronaldo feeling fury of a woman scorned?

Saturday October 03 2009

FOOTBALLERS are a superstitious lot and, after hearing about Cristiano Ronaldo's fate this week, we're beginning to see why. The Real Madrid star has had a curse put on him by a Spanish wizard, who says he has been contracted to bring some bad luck on the preening Portugueser.

The story broke when 'El Mundo' newspaper got hold of a letter that Malaga native Jose 'Pepe' Ruiz sent to Ronaldo's employers, the text of which reveals someone who is intent on causing some serious damage to the world-record signing.

"I have been hired to ensure Cristiano Ronaldo suffers a serious injury," Ruiz wrote. "He'll certainly be out of action more than playing. The person who hired me is personally acquainted with the famous footballer."

Now, here at Football Loco we usually file curses and spells in the same category of nonsense as politicians' promises. But then Ronaldo got hacked down for a penalty in his side's 3-0 win over Marseilles on Wednesday, meaning he's a doubt for their big clash with Sevilla tomorrow. Spooky, eh?

The question is who paid the wizard to put the hex on Ronaldo?

Our money is on former lover Nereida Gallardo, who gave a series of interviews revealing her disgust at being dumped by text message.
