City close in on Milner
MARTIN O'NEILL'S sudden departure has increased the chances of James Milner joining Manchester City before the start of the season.
Milner's £20m-plus transfer to City is earmarked to be completed after the 24-year-old midfielder has returned from international duty with England later this week.
O'Neill had expressed genuine concern that he would not receive all the money for new signings from the Milner deal when asked about the situation at the weekend.
City manager Roberto Mancini wants to have Milner -- and Italian forward Mario Balotelli -- available this Saturday for City's visit to Tottenham in their first Premier League game of the new campaign.
"We are close with both players but now they are going with their national teams," Mancini said. "We hope that we can have these players by next Thursday."
