Here's something to cheer up Chelsea supporters after their frustrating 1-1 draw at Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday night - they have announced a partnership with long-running American cartoon comedy series The Simpsons.

And no - this partnership does not mean a pre-season friendly in Springfield or Shelbyville, Chelsea will be collaborating with The Simpsons to create a new line of merchandise.

In addition, a World Cup-themed episode of the show will air in March, featuring none other than Homer as a referee at the tournament in Brazil. No doubt Howard Webb will be taking notes...

But its not the first time the show, which began in 1989, has dipped it's toes into the "soccer" pool. Cristiano Ronaldo appeared in Simpsons form in a Nike advert in 2010, while his namesake, the original Brazilian Ronaldo also previously made a cameo.

Barcelona, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Corinthians, FC Porto, Juventus and Boca Juniors will also be getting the "Simpsonized" treatment in their shops and online.

John Terry, the Chelsea captain, has found this the right time to reveal that the Simpsons is his favourite television programme.

"It's great to see myself and the other players as Simpsons characters," he said.

"The Simpsons was and still is my favourite show, and is now my kids' too. I can't wait to see what Bart and Homer will look like as Chelsea players."

The club have released pictures of Eden Hazard, Fernando Torres, Terry, Frank Lampard and Peter Cech in yellow "Simpsonized" form. However, David Luiz is nowhere to be found, but then again all the creators would need to do would be to put the villainous character Sideshow Bob in a Chelsea kit.
