Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has felt the wrath of Jose Mourinho this week after the champions began the defence of their Premier League title with a draw at home to Swansea last Saturday.

Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn were criticised by the Portuguese manager, who told the media that their ''impulsive and naive'' decision showed they did not ''understand the game'' as Eden Hazard had to leave the field for treatment, leaving the Blues temporarily with nine men.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at the reaction on social media over the row.

Gibraltar-born Carneiro posted on her Facebook account on Sunday evening: "I would like to thank the general public for their overwhelming support. Really very much appreciated."

Her post has since been liked more than 34,500 times and shared by almost 600 people, while a fans page - We support Eva Carneiro - has been set up on Facebook and has received over 900 likes since Tuesday.

Presenter Gary Lineker made a joke of Mourinho's comments following the match, as the former England and Tottenham striker tweeted: "Might apply for the Chelsea doctor's job given the applicant must understand football. Not sure if any medical knowledge is required."

Arsenal fans on Twitter have come out in support of Carneiro, saying the Premier League rivals want to sign the Chelsea first-team doctor.

One supporter, TweetofArsenal posted: "Mourinho angry with Eva Carneiro. MAKE THIS HAPPEN ARSENAL!!!"

With Shimz_Afc adding: "Sign up Eva Carneiro Arsene. We need all the physios we can get at @Arsenal" as Pamtua wrote: "Eva Carneiro is @Arsenal 's solution to an injury free season. lets sign her. C'mon Wenger forget Benzema."

But Chelsea fans do not want to see the back of Carneiro, with feroze17 tweeting: "Hopefully she stays at Chels and doesn't leave..."

Zeratul_Artanis, a Newcastle fan, shared his support for the doctor with his tweet, which read: " I cannot believe the level of disrespect shown by @ChelseaFC and #Mourinho. You should never publically lambast staff! #EvaCarneiro."

Not everyone was speaking up for Carneiro though as f ormer Chelsea doctor Ralph Rogers sprung to Mourinho's defence.

He told MailOnline Sport: "You're not supposed to take centre stage if you are a physician to a team. You have to understand your dynamic in the club. You are not a player.

"Her putting that 'thanks for the support' on Facebook was extremely naive. That would upset anyone. What was she trying to achieve there? Are you bigger than the manager? You're never going to win, nor should you.

" You're not supposed to be a celebrity. You can't be a celebrity doctor, come on. Let's get real."
