Zamora hits home winner

Bobby Zamora smashed home a fine winner to give Fulham the edge over Shakhtar Donetsk in this Europa League first-leg clash at Craven Cottage.

Zoltan Gera fired the home side ahead in the third minute after being set up by Zamora.

Gera, who was recalled to the first team after recovering from a knee injury, struck in the third minute after Fulham made a strong start.

Sharp passing from Danny Murphy and Zamora split open the visiting defence and the striker then laid on a brilliant chance for Gera, who slipped the ball home.

Stunned into action, the strike provoked a flurry of activity from Shakhtar with Fulham struggling to contain the speed and movement of their opponent's Brazilian contingent.

And in the 32nd minute they cracked, Ilsinho slipping a beautifully weighted pass between Aaron Hughes and Stephen Kelly to his fellow South American, Luiz Adriano, who found the net.

But Shakhtar occasionally looked suspect at the back and in the 63rd minute they were undone by a piledriver from Zamora, who smashed the ball home from 20 yards to put Fulham ahead.

Gera and Zamora then had chances to produce a third, but both players directed their headers at Andriy Pyatov as Fulham held out for the victory.
