IS your glass half-empty of half-full? It is the familiar theme of recent annual meetings at Arsenal and, with the season already following a familiar pattern of a faltering title challenge, injuries to key players, but serene progress into the last 16 of the Champions League, Arsene Wenger delivered a familiar riposte.

Pre-empting probable tension at tomorrow's annual meeting, Wenger admitted that he shared fans' concern at Arsenal's ability to compete, but then urged them to consider the big picture and suggested that history would remember this trophy-less period of his tenure rather more favourably.

Victory tonight against Schalke would virtually guarantee Arsenal a place in the knockout phase of Europe's elite club competition for a 12th consecutive year -- a feat matched by only Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, the decision to take a 14-minute flight from London Luton to Norwich last Saturday left the club under fire yesterday from Friends of the Earth, who described the club's travel arrangements as "absurd." (© Daily Telegraph, London)
