VIDEO: There was a good old fashioned row on the RTE panel after Atletico upset Barca

Atletico Madrid scored a mammoth victory tonight as they saw off Barcelona 2-0 to dump out the Champions League favourites and move into the semi-finals but in another way, it was a victory for Eamon Dunphy too.

The RTE pundit has long been a champion of Atletico and in particular, their fiery and charismatic manager Diego Simeone - who he once said looked like 'a mexican pimp'.

Dunphy wanted tonight's post-match discussion to be a celebration of the home side's aggression, but Liam Brady, the football purist on duty, was having none of it.

Watch below:

Brady lamented the fact that a team laden with such magnificent attacking talent was knocked out by such a 'cynical' outfit.

"I would rather have Barcelona [advancing to the next round] ten out of ten," Brady said.

"It is a sad night because they [Atletico] are a cynical team. You [Dunphy] are celebrating but there is nothing to celebrate."

The duo then went back and forth on the matter in a reasonably heated exchange as Dunphy tried to explain why he admires Simeone's men.

"Hold on Liam, will you let me talk?," Dunphy asked as Brady began to interrupt him.

"They aren't cynical. They are hard working. They are aggressive. There is a difference between cynicism and aggression in my view."

Dunphy then suggested that John Giles get the casting vote in the aggressive v cynical debate, and the senior analyst seemed to lean towards Dunphy rather than Brady.

"I think there is more to them than the cynicism approach," he said.

"There is an element of cynicism to them."
