Champions League

Robben hits killer blow

Fiorentina 3
Bayern Munich 2 (Agg: 4-4. Bayern win on away goals)

Wednesday March 10 2010

Arjen Robben smashed a 30-yard strike into the back of the net for Bayern Munich to break Fiorentina hearts in a pulsating Champions League last-16 second-leg tie in Florence.

Moments before Robben struck home fans were celebrating as Stevan Jovetic's second goal in 10 frantic minutes had put Fiorentina 3-1 up on the night and 4-3 up on aggregate. Munich, 2-0 down after 54 minutes, responded through Mark van Bommel on the hour mark before Robben struck that all-important second away goal.

It was a cruel end to Fiorentina's European adventure. The Italians were clearly aggrieved after the first leg against Munich three weeks ago ended with Miroslav Klose scoring a clearly offside goal to hand the Germans a 2-1 lead.
