ALEX Ferguson claimed Marseille defender Stephane Mbia was "lucky" not to be sent off for a late challenge on Wayne Rooney in Manchester United's 0-0 draw at the Stade Velodrome last night as he attempted to collect Dimitar Berbatov's through-ball in the 87th minute.
"I think they were (lucky)," Ferguson said. "It's a red card. They made sure they weren't going to lose a goal, and that incident at the end showed that."
Marseille could also find themselves the subject of a Uefa probe after an object -- believed to be a golf ball -- was thrown onto the pitch from one of the home stands.
United players, including Nani and John O'Shea, also appeared to be targeted with laser pens. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
