Manuel Pellegrini's side are under pressure to improve on previous disappointing Champions League campaigns. Here is who they will face in the group stages.

Juventus

Coach: Massimiliano Allegri

Star turn: Paul Pogba

A slow start to the season saw Juve lose their first two Serie A matches before they drew with Chievo last weekend, but they have enough quality in their ranks to give City a real test at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

Sevilla

Coach: Unai Emery

Star turn: Jose Antonio Reyes

Dark horses to make an impact in this season’s Champions League, they also made a slow start to the their domestic campaign and will hope to use their European adventure as a springboard to success.

Borussia Monchengladbach

Coach: Lucien Favre

Star turn: Josip Drmic

Another team that has staggered in their first few weeks of domestic action, they do not appear to have the quality in depth to trouble City and Juventus in this group. They currently sit bottom on the Bundesliga after losing their first four games this season.
