Bray winless streak continues
Bray Wanderers 1 UCD 1
Despite moving off the foot of the table, Bray remain without a top-flight win since June.
Their last league success was against UCD 16 weeks ago at the Belfield Bowl where Jason Byrne grabbed four goals in a 5-3 thriller.
Byrne was on the mark again yesterday to salvage a point for the Seagulls after Cillian Morrison had given UCD the lead by finishing off an intricate passage of passing in the 22nd minute.
Barry McCabe took a quick free after being fouled by Gary Dempsey to put Morrison clear and he deftly clipped his shot past Darren Quigley for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Bray responded to level matters in the 35th minute. Dempsey fed Dean Zambra, whose clever ball over the top released Kieran Marty Waters. The winger bore down on goal before playing an astute reverse pass for Byrne to register his sixth goal in three meetings with the Students this season.
The result enabled Bray to leapfrog Shelbourne, who didn't play this weekend, in the battle to avoid the drop, while UCD remain five points clear of the relegation zone.
Both managers argued that their charges deserved at least a point, with Students boss Martin Russell adding: "I was disappointed we didn't win. But there's still a buffer there between us and the three teams below us.
