Big guns kept apart in cup

The big guns avoided each other in the draw for the third round of the FAI Ford Cup, but some established League of Ireland sides face tricky encounters with non-league opposition, writes Daniel McDonnell.

Arguably the highlight of the draw is the clash of top junior side Crumlin United and their neighbours St Patrick's Athletic.

Pete Mahon will be well aware of the difficulty his Saints will face against the highly regarded Leinster Senior League leaders, who have home advantage.

Meanwhile, holders Sligo Rovers will welcome Limerick's Pike Rovers to the Showgrounds, and the only all-Premier Division tie of the round brings Dundalk and struggling Galway United together at Oriel Park.

League champions and competition favourites Shamrock Rovers secured a home draw, with Athlone the visitors to Tallaght.
