Bale on target as Madrid step closer to last 16

Published 06/11/2013 | 02:00

Real Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw at Juventus leaving the Spanish side on the verge of qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.

Juventus dominated in the first period and Arturo Vidal gave the Italian side a deserved half-time lead from the penalty spot after Paul Pogba had been fouled by Raphael Varane.

Cristiano Ronaldo levelled for Madrid with his 21st goal in 16 matches this season and turned provider minutes later as Gareth Bale put Carlo Ancelotti's side in front. But Madrid's lead lasted just five minutes before Fernando Llorente headed Juventus level.

Bayern Munich booked a spot in the last 16 when a Mario Mandzukic goal gave them a 1-0 win over a Viktoria Plzen.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic salvaged a 1-1 home draw for Paris St Germain against Anderlecht. Demy De Zeeuw opened the scoring for the Belgians in the 68th minute, only for Ibrahimovic to equalise two minutes later from inside the area.
