Aston Villa confirm John Terry signing in the most cringeworthy way possible
The era when club's unveiled their latest signing with nothing but a scarf and a shirt is well and truly over.
It seems football clubs are now trying to out-do each other with ever more inventive ways of announcing the arrival of new players.
A week after Liverpool marked the signing of Mohamed Salah in a video of the player himself favouriting tweets from fans calling on the club to 'announce Salah', Aston Villa have taken the current trend to new, cringeworthy heights.
As expected, John Terry joined Aston Villa on Monday afternoon after signing a one-year deal with the Championship club after a 23-year career with Chelsea.
Along with the orthodox picture of the player holding the club's shirt aloft, Aston Villa also tweeted a fake WhatsApp conversation between Villa chairman, Tony Xia, Steve Bruce and a handful of current players.

"It's a club I have admired from afar for many years," Terry said in an interview with the BBC.
"There are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country and there's a good group of players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce.
"I can't wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season."
