Arsenal re-open contract talks with Bacary Sagna

Arsenal have re-opened talks with Bacary Sagna in a bid to end their contract stand-off with the right-back.

Sagna’s Arsenal deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the Frenchman has rejected the club’s offer of a new two-year deal on similar terms to the £70,000-a-week he already earns.

There has been interest in Sagna from France and Turkey, where he could earn himself a contract up to four years as a free agent.

Arsenal have already started to look at right-backs who could replace Sagna if the 30 year-old decides to quit the Emirates at the end of the season.

But manager Arsene Wenger’s preference is to try to keep Sagna at the club, which is why Arsenal have not yet given up on the situation.

Sagna is understood to feel he should be rewarded better for staying loyal to Arsenal during tough years when Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri left to earn more money elsewhere.

Premier League leaders Arsenal, meanwhile, are close to announcing central defender Per Mertesacker has signed a new contract and are confident Tomas Rosicky will also agree a new deal.
