All Liverpool eyes on US for resolution to ownership saga

By Paul Kelso

Friday October 15 2010

LIVERPOOL could be owned by New England Sports Ventures (NESV) today after legal actions either side of the Atlantic sought to overcome a last-ditch attempt by Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr to block the £300 million sale.

After another victory in the British High Court yesterday, lawyers for the Liverpool board and RBS were in a Texas court yesterday appealing to a district judge to lift a temporary injunction that stalled completion of the sale on Wednesday night.

Jim Jordan, the Dallas judge, adjourned the hearing until 1.0pm (British time), which would give Liverpool and NESV a tight schedule to complete the deal today if their application was successful.

The Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton appeared confident last night as he left the City offices of Slaughter & May, the club's solicitors, that a sale could be completed before 3.0 today -- the latest time that NESV can transfer the £200m owed to RBS before its repayment deadline of 5.0. "We're nearly there," Broughton said.
