The former Man United and England fullback never bothered to hide his dislike of Liverpool during his playing career and a tweet this morning is unlikely to endear him to the Reds fans.

It's now a quarter of a century since Liverpool won their last league title and the Times football correspondent Oliver Kay marked the occasion with a tweet which stated that: "Twenty-five years today since Liverpool were last crowned champions. You would have been sectioned for predicting that in 1990."

Gary Neville was quick to get the dig in at his former enemies, Neville tweeted: All Dayer"?" meaning that United fans should go out on a session to mark the occasion.

One wonders what Jamie Carragher will make of it next time the two of them are alone in the Sky Sports studio.
