We look back at some of Bill O'Herlihy's most entertaining moments during a long and distinguished career.
'What kind of a fu**ing eejit'
In 2007 comedian PJ Gallagher caught out the presenter on RTE's the Naked Camera when he pretended to be an incompetent taxi driver.
O'Herlihy managed to keep composed, but did lament "'what kind of a fu**ing eejit'" once the 'taxi driver' stepped outside of the car.
'I don't think it's below the belt'
The RTE anchor drew a sharp response from Liam Brady after lamenting another disappointing performance under Giovanni Trapattoni in front of a sparse attendance at the Aviva Stadium in 2011
'Ah come on now Eamon, that's out of order'
Quite often the live football failed to live up to the action inside the Montrose studios. Roy Keane's departure form Manchester United in 2005 caused quite a stir, with Eamon Dunphy particularly passionate over the treatment of the former Ireland captain.
Bill was forced to intervene when Dunphy made comments regarding journalist Rod Liddle (9 minutes 15 seconds)
Bill bids farewell
After a broadcasting career that spanned more than 40 years, an emotional O'Herlihy bowed out at the end of the 2014 World Cup.
On a Late Late Show appearance, O'Herlihy was reminded of his famous reaction after Ireland defeated Romania in a penalty shoot-out at Italia 90.
O'Herlihy will be best remembered as the person who let others, most notably John Giles, Eamon Dunphy and Liam Brady, discuss the topical issues of the day.
Here is the panel discussing the appointment of the Irish 'Dream team' of Martin O' Neill and Roy Keane.
Bill meets Bill
Another Late Late Show appearance saw the legendary broadcaster come face-to-face with his Aprés Match impersonator Risteard Cooper.
"I never say okey dokey," he protested.
