ONE of Irish rugby's more venerable trophies will be played for on the historic grounds of the country's oldest club when the Dudley Cup is held at College Park in the heart Dublin city today.
The inter-varsity competition dates back to 1903 and Trinity will host the one-day tournament between UCD, UCC, Queens University Belfast and Dublin University.
Matches are 20 minutes a half, with the final to be played over two 25-minute periods.
Teams are allowed rolling substitutions.
UCD are the title holders, but face strong competition from AIL Division 1B side UCC. Apart from the Cork outfit, the other three teams compete in AIL Division 2.
With the AIL not getting underway until next weekend, today is a good opportunity for rugby fans to watch the traditionally entertaining university rugby in one of the country's finest settings.
