'It's ridiculous' - Hayden Triggs hits out at 'embarrassing' coverage of Lions Tour from New Zealand media
Leinster lock Hayden Triggs has described the vociferous approach to the Lions team and management from the New Zealand media as 'embarrassing' .
Speaking on today's episode of The Left Wing with former Leinster teammate Luke Fitzgerald, the New Zealand-born second row said the attitude of the New Zealand public towards the tourists was not reflected in the media's treatment of their visitors.
Warren Gatland and his players have found themselves on the receiving end of some harsh criticism following the defeats to the Blues and Highlanders and for the style of play the Lions are deploying.
"It's a shame really because the general public are very accommodating, they love having the Lions down there. They are very hospitable and try to interact as much as they can," Triggs said.
"The snapshot we get from the media down there is quite negative and a little bit embarrassing in fairness as a Kiwi abroad because that's what I see.
"Behind the scenes, the community is trying to make the Lions feel welcome.
"The media is just ridiculous."
Both Fitzgerald and Triggs are predicting victory for the All Blacks at Eden Park this weekend, a venue where they haven't tasted defeat since 1994.
