Stringer demoted to 'A' team bench

(The Gnoll, 2.30)

HE was once front and centre on big Heineken Cup weekends, but this afternoon Peter Stringer must contemplate his fall from the limelight from the bench at the Gnoll where Munster 'A' take on Neath.

Munster suffered a narrow defeat in their opening British and Irish Cup game to Cornish Pirates last weekend and coach Ian Costello has opted to start with young gun Duncan Williams ahead of 98-cap Ireland scrum-half Stringer (33).

Elsewhere, Mick O'Driscoll and Scott Deasy are in Toulouse with the first team, so Dave Foley comes into the second-row alongside Ian Nagle, while JJ Hanrahan moves to out-half from inside-centre, where Tom Gleeson starts alongside Corey Hircock.

Neath won their opener at Bristol and will be tough opponents for a young Munster team.

A losing bonus might be the height of the visitors' ambitions against a well-drilled Welsh outfit.

Verdict: Neath

Munster 'A' -- L O'Dea; R O'Mahoney, C Hircock, T Gleeson, S Zebo; JJ Hanrahan, D Williams; D Kilcoyne, S Henry, S Archer; D Foley, I Nagle; B Holland (capt), T O'Donnell, P Butler. Reps: A Cotter, D Casey, B Hayes, B O'Hara, P Stringer, J Holland, D Moroney.
