Stockdale hat-trick the highlight of Schools' five-try rout of Clubs

Ireland U-18 Schools 25 Ireland U-18 Clubs 0

An outstanding hat-trick from full-back Jacob Stockdale sealed an impressive five-try win for the Ireland U-18 schools side against an Ireland U-18 clubs selection at Ashbourne.

The annual fixture was played as more of a training-ground game rather than the usual competitive festive clash.

Despite early pressure from the Clubs side, it was Ireland Schools who took the lead after 12 minutes when Stockdale dotted down for his first try after good play from Jimmy O'Brien. It didn't take Stockdale long to double his tally when he linked up well with Colm Mulcahy. The exciting centre made plenty of ground down the left flank before offloading to Stockdale, who scored to leave 10 points between the sides at the break.

Stockdale completed his hat-trick six minutes after the restart, and although the Ulster player was forced off through injury, his side remained in the ascendency.

Replacement Josh McIlroy and Alan McMahon added further tries in the second half to round off the scoring in what was a worthwhile exercise for both sides.
