Watch Garry Ringrose training with Ireland squad at Carton House
He may not have made Joe Schmidt’s initial Six Nations panel, but Garry Ringrose was front and centre today as the Ireland squad were put through their paces at Carton House.
Many had forecasted and, indeed, hoped, that Ringrose’s sporadic but blistering performances for Leinster this season would convince Schmidt to call on him for Ireland’s tilt at a third successive Championship.
The Kiwi deemed that the 21-year-old would be better served getting game time with his province before being cast into the crucible that is test rugby. However, as was the case during the one-day camp over Christmas, the promising tyro trained this morning with the national team as he seeks to broaden his experience and skill set.
As Luke Fitzgerald has unfortunately demonstrated, injuries can occur at any time or place, so Ringrose may yet be called upon for real over the next eight weeks.
Watch below, as he and fellow Leinster young gun Josh Van Der Flier carry out some drills under the watchful eye if Jamie Heaslip.
